I am an Educational Psychologist who works in private practice and consults to a private school in the North of Johannesburg. I also lecture in the Education department at the University of Johannesburg on a part time basis. I have a Batchelor of Psychology from the Nelson Mandela University in the Eastern Cape and went on to my Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Johannesburg. I have been working in the school setting providing therapy and assessments for over 8 years and worked mainly in Independent schools.
I was trained in an eclectic approach and use an integrative therapeutic approach mostly guided by the tenets of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, which allows a co-construction and hopeful future for the both the child and parent. I have received specialised training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy which helps me guide children to their own preferred future. I have also completed the kids skills training programme with the Helsinki Brief Institute and am a registered Kids Skills Coach.
Therapy provides us with the opportunity to do things differently to made it better, and help us achieve what we want instead of what we don’t want. As BF Skinner so beautifully states ‘A failure is not a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances’.
